Decorating the interiors of your home is a more considerable commitment than you think. All the decors you see in the store that you think will look good in your living room can add up to an expensive total. So before you decide and buy them, you have to feel a bit more.
If you are not yet sure about what you want your everyday environment to look like, hold your horses, don’t make any big purchase just yet. You might end up buying all the things you think look cute only to scrap them off later on because they do not look like anything you expected.
Maybe you are a renter or you just moved in and can’t commit yet to a full-on interior renovation. There is something you can do. If you don’t want to live with white walls every day for the following months, you can add temporary touches to give your space some life. Don’t worry because the following ideas won’t make you take the drill out of the box.
You can also use the following temporary touches to find out what style you will eventually like to be a permanent part of your everyday life.
Wallpaper
Installing wallpapers is your go-to when you want something temporary but aesthetic enough. It gets the job done. A few yards of bright-colored wallpaper will make the best wall accent compared to your white walls. Aside from color, you can also experiment with textures and patterns.
Wallpapers are fun to experiment with because, for one, they are cheap. And two, you have plenty of choices.
Honestly, white walls are pleasant, making any space wider and more prominent. However, they can get boring. There is a fine line between pleasant and lifeless when it comes to white walls. One way to address this is to take inspiration from your grandma’s vibrant and cozy living room.
Do you remember being drawn to a bright yellow wallpaper with tiny white flowers in your grandma’s house? You can copy it. It will instantly breathe life into your living room when you have such a jolly color around.
Floating Shelves
When you drill holes into a wall, that is the farthest you can stray away from the word temporary. Thankfully, somebody was clever enough to invent floating shelves. So for this project, you won’t need to take out the drill or the nails and hammer.
You can buy ready-to-install floating shelves from most stores and stick them right onto your white wall. You can put picture frames or any other decor you want to. Your decor needs to be as varied as it can if you’re going to make some contrast against the color of your walls.
Experiment with different textures and finishes. For example, you can put books next to a silver candle holder. Or you can take dried flowers in a small vase and put them next to a small mirror.
Curtains
Just because you are doing something temporary doesn’t mean you won’t consider functionality. Curtains are a great addition to a stale-looking interior. But you can’t just get any curtain. You also have to consider their purpose.
You can mix and match curtains according to the style of your windows. And in case you are not aware, there are many kinds of residential windows. Many manufactures use different materials like wood, fiberglass, and vinyl to make windows. They are also designed differently according to use and purpose. You can consider that when getting curtains that match.
In the summer, when your house receives excellent natural lighting from the sun, it’s up to you if you want to add sheer curtains to welcome the warmth and light. You can also use block-out curtains if you don’t feel like being awakened by the glare of the sun on your face. There are also ways to hang a curtain without a drill if there is a space you want to add curtains to.
Don’t be afraid to spend some on curtains even if the move is temporary. You can always use these curtains in the future.
Wall art
Finally, there is nothing more straightforward about adding life to a space than wall art. And since it’s temporary, you can buy adhesive strips that hold your wall art flush to the wall. Adhesive strips can work with lighter materials such as paper and poster boards. They also work well with smaller frames.
You can get industrial adhesive hooks if you want to hang heavier and bigger things. They are more expensive, but it will be worth it considering they can hold up to 7 pounds of material.
Don’t be afraid to spend money on these things even if they are only temporary. When you are done with them, just store them away. You will definitely find some use for them in the future.
